Casady and Daniel chose Lake Como for their elopement, and Villa Cipressi for the place to have it. A garden that steps down to the water, stone terraces, flowers in bloom and the mountains across the lake: this page follows their day from the first photo to the last.

An elopement in Italy often starts with the landscape, and Lake Como is hard to beat, with mountains that fall straight into the water and villages along the shore. Their story

Their elopement day at Villa Cipressi

The day began slowly, in soft morning light above the lake. Daniel took his time getting ready, then stepped out onto the balcony to look at the water and the mountains beyond. Casady got ready in a bright room with tall windows open to the garden. A quiet moment reading a note left her smiling behind her hand, and by the time she put on her tiara and her gown, the light was pouring in around her. She stood at the window with her veil and a bouquet of white roses, ready to go down and meet him.

They saw each other for the first time under the trees in the garden. Daniel waited with his back turned while Casady walked toward him with her veil trailing behind. Then they turned, held hands and took a moment before anything else began. The ceremony followed on the same terrace, with the lake and mountains behind them. They read from folded notes, exchanged rings and shared a kiss under the branches.

After the ceremony the garden became their studio. They walked down the stone stairs between pink flowers and ivy, stood under a pergola, and wrapped themselves in the veil by the railing. Then they went out onto the lake in a wooden boat. With a lakeside village on one side and a grand villa on the other, they sat close, laughed, and Daniel opened a bottle of champagne as the boat moved across the green water.

Back at the villa, a table for two was waiting on the terrace, set with white flowers, candles and a cake topped with raspberries. They cut the cake, raised a toast and stayed a while with the lake in front of them. Before the light went, they walked down to the Gates of Heaven. These iron gates open straight onto Lake Como, and the photos of the two of them standing between them, with the water and the mountains behind, are among the most striking of the day.
