Beach Elopements in Portugal

Areias do Seixo

If you dream of wiggling your bare toes in the sand while saying “I do” then look no further than Areias do Seixo. Less than an hour north of Lisbon, this gem describes itself as, “A charming hotel with a strong emphasis on environmental awareness.” And it’s impossible not to be aware of the environment at Areias do Seixo because you are right next to the sea surrounded by trees, gardens, and greenery. We conducted one elopement and one microwedding at Areias do Seixo and both times the couples were over-the-moon happy with the experience.

Founders Marta and Gonçalo wanted everything about their hotel to be connected to nature. The rooms and private villas each have different themes that allow you to relax in your own way before your elopement in Portugal. Are you looking for some more help in organizing a relaxing stay? What about a couple’s message? Or maybe a cuddle session next to the outdoor fire pit? Better yet, what about a picnic basket, a blanket, and a seaside sunset? Or maybe a private, sunrise yoga session on the beach? It is all possible at Areias do Seixo.

Alentejo Region

When you ask the Portuguese where they go for holidays, they will tell you about the magical region of the Alentejo. Drive 2 hours directly east from Lisbon and just before the border with Spain is where you will find this area full of wonders

Why do the Portuguese love this region so dearly? Because it is the perfect combination of the best of Portugal: a slower pace of life, unspoiled nature, welcoming people, excellent wines, and the best food (from the bread to the pork to the pastries). This region calls to those looking to take a break from life and focus on what is important in life: love, nature, and food.

Porto City Elopement

Porto is known for its iconic skyline, but the few wedding venues with this view are booked up sometimes years in advance. Forgo the reservations and take to the streets to embrace the full beauty of the city. Specifically, we recommend eloping in front of the Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar. We will admit the monastery and church are nice on the inside, but the view from their courtyard is what elopement dreams are made of!

The courtyard is open all day long, has no admission fee, and while there are tourists, they will be more interested in the view than you. Though we don’t recommend that you be very shy. A recent elopement we held here did attract a crowd. The onlookers dutifully kept their distance, but also added beautiful emotion when they burst into applause as Erin & Dan kissed. When the sun is out this spot gives you a postcard-perfect vantage point.

Lisbon City Elopement

Lisbon is a spectacular city that combines an edgy ruggedness, with old-school ways, and a dash of sleek sophistication. In other words, it has got a lot going for it, which is why couples love eloping to Lisbon. But there is a secret to getting the very best views of Lisbon as your backdrop and that is, you must cross the river Tejo. Only once you are south of the river in the neighborhood of Almada can you fully appreciate the beauty of Lisbon.

With that tip in mind, we recommend you hop on the ferry from Cais do Sodré and take it to the Cacilhas Pier.  The view is so good that you should probably have to pay for it, but you don’t! On one of the handful of unused piers, you can have the whole of Lisbon as your backdrop for free. Cacilhas is where street art meets old fishermen town. It is an ideal place for couples who want something that feels fresh and not like you have seen it a hundred times on Instagram. Your views will alternate between the iconic 25th of April bridge, the cityscape of Lisbon, and the hipster-revived warehouses of Cacilhas.
